The Stories We Pass On
Photo and the Ineffable: Place
(Canon EOS 5 - DSLR, Adobe Photoshop)
We were prompted with creating a set of images correlated with place and I chose antique, vintage and thirft stores as my subject. These places hold donated items that have been discarded and forgotten, many of which hold the stories of their previous owners and the times they were used in. I wanted to commemorate and memorialize these objects and memorabilia into a format that has been used to capture moments since the invention of the photograph. I decided to composite them into physical postcards to memorialize these stories in a tangible way. I left blank vintage postcard templates on the back to allow for an interaction with the audience member, writing stories of their own for the objects they see. These photos and items are from three different antique and thrift stores in Pittsburgh.
