We Want the
Funk Festival Poster

Communications Mini Project 1: Heirarchy

Project Timeline: 2 weeks
(Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop)

We were tasked with creating a poster for an assigned event thinking about scale, use of text weight, color, and overall branding thought to create an output that follows design principles and works within the context of the event. I wanted to use a color scheme that was emblematic of the 60s and 70s, the period that created the funk genre of music. I also wanted to incorporate imagery that maintained the joy the event would create, especially for the black community, as funk originated from African American artists, and the event is hosted by the August Wilson African Cultural Center.

My medium post, linked below, details my entire process, the changes and updates made through consistent critique and feedback, including all preliminary iterations before the finalized poster.
