connecting local businesses

MOTION + VIDEOGRAPHY + ILLUSTRATION + ADVOCACY
(Adobe After Effects, Premier Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop) |  2 WEEKS

Overview:

We were assigned to create a video piece and accompanying assets for a branded campaign advocating against the slow and expensive access to Broadband in certain rural communities and towns in the United States. The goal was to reach individuals experiencing this issue and encourage them to reach out to their local representatives in the hopes of creating change. I chose to focus on local businesses and found one in Hazelwood, PA, effected by this issue. I filmed Dianne Shenk’s local market and asked her about the importance of internet in her life as a business owner using her story as a means of highlighting this issue and it’s message.

I utilized knitting/stitched thematic visuals as a conceptual framework to tie in the slogan of “weaving the fabric of our community tapstery.” I utilized these visuals toward the end of the video and in the subsequent marketing campaign, illustrating a set of iconography representing common small businesses. This collateral operates in a mostly print sector, as I focused on assets that could be applied in said establishments, directing pedestrians to businesses through posters and flyers, and stickers that could be handed out in said stores. The coasters were an idea I thought of as something that could be patchworked together into a quilt like format, watching as the icons literally come together and form a tapestry.
